Shooting Disciplines: Pistol, Rifle & Shotgun
Eligibility: Open to all full club members, discipline members and non-members but only full club members can qualify for the club championship. All members who are not familiar with all or any disciplines are encouraged to attend any of the shooting events (see website calendar of events) that are being held monthly prior to the event to learn about the discipline and the equipment used.
Date: Saturday July 12 th , 2025
Time:
Pistol and Shotgun will start at 11am, with relays starting every hour (i.e.12pm, 1pm, and 2pm ).
Rifle will start at 12pm with a 2 nd relay beginning at 2pm. Please be at your discipline’s location a minimum of 15 minutes before your relay starts.
Silhouette will start at 3pm or when all other matches are complete.
Location: Bigfork Gun Club (see ranges below for shooting disciplines). Check-in for participating shooters will be in the clubhouse 30 minutes prior to your scheduled shooting time.
Shooting Fees: $5.00 per match for full members, all others $7.00 per match. See match schedule below. All fees include the cost of the picnic.
Registration: There is a limited number of shooting spots available. All participants must register in advance and will be squadded onto relays. Registration closes at the end of the day, Sunday July 6th. All registrations shall be completed through the Bigfork Gun Club website.
Awards/Prizes:
Overall Discipline Winners will have their name engraved on the Bigfork Gun Club Championship plaque hung in the clubhouse.
Ties will be broken based on the following:
Pistol – First to drop steel popper
Rifle - Total number of X’s in each match
Shotgun - There will be a sudden death shoot off between tied competitors in each match.
There will be awards to top finishers in each discipline.
High Senior and High Junior in each discipline will receive an award.
Food: There will be food and refreshments available during the event starting at 1pm. There is no fee for participants or volunteers who help during the Matches (food tickets will be distributed). All others there will be food to purchase. Food and refreshments will be provided by Wild Bill’s Western Food Wagon.
Pistol:
Match 1: Pistol - Steel Targets
Round Count: 25 rounds plus makeup
Strings: 5, Score best 4, drop lowest score
Course: Smoke and Hope
Start position: Standing in start box, gun pointed at start cone (low ready)
Stage Procedure: Shoot 4 plates any order then stop plate
Ready Condition: Loaded, safety on
Match 2: Pistol - Paper Targets
Round Count: 10 rounds plus makeup
Strings: 1
Course: 5 targets, 10 rounds course of fire open targets with a few no shoots, 1 4-foot
wall to require slight lean
Start position: Standing in start box, gun pointed at start cone (low ready)
Stage Procedure: Shoot all available targets as they become visible with 2 shots each,
avoid no shoots
Ready Condition: Loaded, safety on
Match 3: Pistol Championship: Combined scores from matches 1 and 2
Optics Division: steel & paper - Any pistol with an optic, excluding rimfire. No magnums.
Irons Division: steel & paper – Any pistol with iron sights, excluding rimfire. No magnums.
Revolver Division: steel & paper – Any revolver with iron sights, revolvers with optics shoot in optics match.
Rimfire Division: steel & paper – Any rimfire pistol, must be .22LR, no magnums. Short or others, can be irons or optics.
Rifle: Smallbore rimfire .22LR rifles with any sights are required. This event will consist of 20 shots prone at 50 yards on the NRA A-23 target and 20 shots prone at 100 yards on the A-25 target. The highest score combined of 50 yards and 100 yards will determine the overall winners. The time limit will be 25 minutes for the 20 shots at each distance. No artificial support is allowed other than a sling. Shooting jackets are allowed.
Match 4: 20 shots at 50 yards
Match 5: 20 shots at 100 yards
Match 6: Rifle Championship: Combined scores of Matches 4 and 5
Shotgun: This event will consist of 25 clay birds in skeet and 25 clay birds in5 Stand. Over/under, automatic and pump shotguns allowed in 12, 20, 28 or 410ga. Highest number of broken birds for skeet and 5 Stand combined will determine the winners. No more than 2 shells loaded at a time and nothing larger than no. 7 ½ shot.
Match 7: 25 birds in skeet
Match 8: 25 birds in 5 Stand
Match 9 Shotgun Championships: Combined scores of matches 7 and 8
Club Ranges used for each Discipline:
Pistol Event – 100M range (steel targets) & Pistol Bay (paper targets)
Rifle Event – 200/300-yard range (target stands will be set at 50 & 100 yards)
Shotgun Event – Trap & Skeet Field, 5 Stand Field
Match 10: Smallbore (.22 rifle Silhouette) 5 shots at 60 yards. 50/50 Money Match – The total proceeds of this match will be split 50/50 with the winner and the club. Any ties will be settled in a shoot off. Participants shall provide their own rifles and .22 ammo. Note: No Stinger ammo. All shots fired from the offhand (standing position) with no artificial support, gloves or shooting coats (shooting vests will be allowed). Metallic sights or scope can be used. Time limit of 2 ½ minutes for 5 shots. The targets will be steel pig silhouettes at 60 meters. Each pig must be knocked down to count as a hit.
